Longrun Capital invests in 3E Flow to enable a technology shift in hot water management

February 13, 2024

Longrun Capital is the lead investor in 3E Flow’s capital round of SEK 20m, aiming to scale up the next generation of hot water management. 3E Flow’s system reduces energy and water consumption as well as minimizes the risk for water damages and Legionella by replacing traditional hot water recirculating systems.

Longrun, a climate impact VC firm backed by the reputable real estate family Ljungberg, today announced a strategic investment in 3E Flow. This investment underscores Longrun’s commitment to maximize climate impact, with a focus on the construction and real estate sector.

3E Flow’s vision is to revolutionize hot water management globally with its ground-breaking technology. The company's hot water management system offers smart control and monitoring that empties the pipes when water is not in use, thus contributing to reduced energy consumption, increased safety and more hygienic systems.

Domestic hot water today accounts for around 40-50% of the energy demand in the Nordics for low-energy apartment buildings. Half of this energy demand is attributable to losses from hot water recirculation or stagnant water. Through smarter hot water management, 3E Flow's proprietary technology halves the energy use compared to current systems. It also reduces the risk of water damage and solves the problem of stagnant water - which otherwise increases the risk of growth of legionella bacteria, among other things.

"We are thrilled to partner with 3E Flow, a company at the forefront of revolutionizing the way we think about tap water. Their game-changing technology enables the world's most energy efficient and hygienic tap water system, which aligns perfectly with our mission to invest in solutions that address pressing global challenges related to climate change. The energy losses in VVC systems are often significantly higher than people think and is therefore an interesting area to invest in.” said Johan Frenckner, CEO at Longrun Capital.

“As we embark on this exciting partnership with Longrun, we are confident that their broad knowledge and understanding of the real estate sector will further amplify our impact. This investment will enable us to scale up production and accelerate growth in Europe, as well as allowing us to continue innovating and pushing the green transition in the real estate sector.” said Erik Abbing, CEO and founder of 3E Flow.

The company was founded in Luleå in 2009 by Erik Abbing, who’s family has a long history in the plumbing industry. The company has installed the system in selected projects in Sweden and Switzerland.
